Laurel Fairland Gymnastics Level 4 and Level 5 teams recently won the Maryland State Championship March 15 at Sportsplex in Landover.
Gymnasts Matthew Dean, Dhiren Lutchman and Austin Visk were All Around Champions.
Dean also won gold medals in the floor, pommel horse, vault and parallel bars. Visk won a gold medal in ring, and Lutchman won gold medals in rings, parallel bars and the high bar.
Pierce Jarrell, Thomas Fagiolo, Justin Skerritt and Christian Jarrell also won gold medals.
Uche Eke won a silver medal, while Joshua Krutz and Cameron Rice won bronze medals.
The Laurel Community Center, located at 7901 Cypress St., was recently renamed the Robert J. DiPietro Community Center, in honor of the former City Councilman and mayor, on March 11.
DiPietro was a City Councilman from 1974 to 1976 and mayor from 1978 through 1984.

Several students from Laurel Scotchtown Hills Elementary School performed March 28 at the Prince George County Schools Solo and Ensemble Festival at Kenmoor Middle School in Landover.
Anna Arbach, Bitania Berhane, Jasmine Thomas and Delia Parrish were members of the Flute Quartet, while Milena Berhane, Jasmine Williams and Daa Watson Willis formed the Violin Trio.
The ensemble was part of the county school observing The National Association for Music Education Music In Our Schools Month which encourages music education in schools throughout the nation
